Artificial intelligence in human reproduction: charting the ethical debate over AI in IVF

The novel introduction of artificial intelligence (AI) into in vitro fertilization (IVF) technologies (AI(i)IVF) is, at the same time, medically promising and ethically disconcerting. new possibilities complexities generated by involving intelligent, powerful algorithms human creation reproduction, raise a host ethical issues for IVF patients, practitioners—embryologists, particular, society large. After introducing various roles AI may play IVF, presenting research challenges limitations, this paper seeks to identify analyze various, as yet unexplored implications AI(i)IVF. We first originally contemplate suitable framework discussion, where biomedicine patient rights are intertwined with algorithmic decision-making. As these two domains seemingly governed distinct frameworks—the long-standing bioethics currently evolving ethics—we suggest that combination (nuanced, considerably overlapping) sets principles should be applied: human-centric ethics principles—applied technological architecture AI(i)IVF tool, patient-centric bioethics—applied personal societal aspects implementing then, respectively, apply relevant merits caveats AI(i)IVF, particularly embryo evaluation selection, while consistently debating whether putting higher threshold ethicality, than one set traditional (non-AI) is indeed warranted or justified.
